Glenda Greer

               Preschool Minister

Glenda Greer serves as the Preschool Minister here at Cypress.  Glenda plans programs, ministries and activities for our preschoolers (birth through Kindergarten).  She is married to Samuel Greer since February, 21, 1970.  Sammy is from Coushatta, and they met through a mutual friend who talked them in to a blind date.  Glenda and Sammy have a son, Scott, and daughter, Tanya.  Tanya, is married to Casey Bailiff, and they have 3 children, Melanie, Peyton and Ella Grace.   Scott and his wife, Lisa, have one son, Logan. Being a grandmother (GG to her grandchildren) is one of Glenda's special joys in life.
 
Glenda was born in Clayton, New Mexico.  Her father joined the Air Force, so Glenda moved around during her younger years living in five different states and even Germany for three years.  She moved to Bossier City after graduation when her Dad got stationed at Barksdale.  Glenda and her brothers began marrying and having children, so her Mom and Dad retired here and still live in Bossier City.  Four of Glenda's brothers live in Shreveport or Bossier.  Her youngest brother is in heaven.
 
Glenda gave her life to Christ at the age of 8 years old in an evangelistic service at Vacation Bible School in San Antonio, Texas.  Because of that experience, VBS is very important to her life and ministry and is one of her favorite programs.
 
Glenda became an active volunteer at her church after having her children.  Being a stay-at-home mother allowed her to work closely with the Children's Minister at First Baptist Bossier for 3 years.  When that Minister moved away, Glenda became Interim Children's Minister.   During the next six months, God called her into the ministry to children.  She was Children's Director at First Baptist Bossier for six years.  In 1992, God called her to come to Cypress Baptist Church and expand her ministry to include Preschool and Children.
 
Glenda loves to read romantic Christian books, watch "tear-jerker" movies and keeps a box of tissues close by.  She loves crafts, especially making jewelry, scrapbooking and cross stitching. She enjoys watching the Cowboys, Saints and LSU play football and cheers for the "under-dog" when watching other games.

She says the best thing about what she does at Cypress Baptist Church is watching the children grow up and seeing the path God has for their lives. "Being at the same church for 17 plus years allows me to see preschoolers grow into children, children grow to be youth, and youth to mature into young adults," said Glenda. "This is exciting to see and confirms the commitment we as teachers and parents make to our children at birth."
 
If Glenda were not here at Cypress, she dreams of owning a Tea Room, having tea parties and meeting lots of people to pamper.
 
Favorite food: Mexican
 
Favorite verse: John 3: 16 because she uses that verse to talk to children about salvation on many occasions.
 
Favorite hymn: Great is Thy Faithfulness
 
Hobbies: crafts, cross stitch, reading, scrapbooking and collecting things (figurines of children, teacups, teapots, old dishes, plates with children's pictures, and nativity sets, just to name a few)
