Sunday Morning & Evening Programs
Sunday School at 9:15 am in The Billy Pierce Education Building
Children learn in a fun and exciting way about God and His plan for them. They will grow as they enjoy being with friends in the same grade level and are taught by dedicated teachers who care about them. We use LifeWay Curriculum. It is Bible based and planned for the growth and development of children. Activity teaching is centered around units of study such as God, Jesus, family, church, community, creation, etc. Children receive lesson prep worksheets to complete before each class and parents are encouraged to further teach the biblical truths taught at church in situations during the week.
Kids' Church at 10:45 am in Lagniappe Hall
We offer a high energy, age appropriate, optional worship experience for kids grades 1-5 during the corporate worship time for adults and youth. Our curriculum includes games, kid-friendly music with motions, Bible lessons, life application videos and biblical truths for each week. Adults and responsible youth leaders engage the kids in worship enticing to their needs and interests. Bible Study teachers walk the children over to the gathering area at 10:30 to check-in with Kids Church teachers. We believe children:
Should be included in worship experiences;
Are an important part of the body of Christ;
Should be taught to worship;
Belong to the body of Christ and are welcome in His church;
Should have memorable experiences at church;
Love to worship through music;
Love to praise God;
Love to hear stories from the Bible;
Learn God can speak to them through worship; and
Are valued by God and by God’s people.
Praise Team at 5:30 pm
From September to May we offer a chance for children to practice and learn to lead their peers in worship. Kids are encouraged to help choose songs and motions that will be used for both Sunday and Wednesday children’s worship times. There are no tryouts for Praise Team, but coming to practice is a requirement to lead worship for Kids Church.
Bible Skills, Drills, and Thrills at 6:00 pm
From September to May we offer a class where children can learn all the books of the Bible and how to find those books, as well as verses, key passages and the Plan of Salvation all while having fun! Older elementary children will even have the opportunity to compete in Bible Drills at the district and state levels.
This is a special time to visit with friends and church family!
WOW! (Worship on Wednesdays) at 6:15 pm in The Billy Pierce Education Building
Join us for fun, casual, midweek children’s worship and Bible study. Grades 1-4 will experience a worship time together and then will divide up for Bible study. 5th grade meets in a seperate room where pizza and drinks are available to them before they begin Bible study. Children have a chance to win prizes for scripture memory and win a free fast food lunchtime with Miss Stacy. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
Leadership team open to 5th graders, where those who choose to participate assist in different areas of children's ministry and are taught a mindset of ownership of the church to prepare them to stay involved once they promote into youth ministry.
First Grade Bible Presentation Ceremony
One of the highlights of our Children’s Ministry is the privilege of presenting new first graders with their very own Bible as they promote from the Preschool Division into the Children’s Division at Cypress.
Our desire is for them to learn to love the Bible as a very special book of 66 love letters from God. We give them all the same Holman Christian Standard version of the Bible. It is very helpful with beginning readers that they all use the same Bible so pages and words are the same. First grade teachers begin a process of teaching children how to use their Bible, find references for the Bible stories, learn memory verses and learn to locate verses and books.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us to impress the commandments of God upon the hearts of our child, talk about them at home and “along the road”, at morning and at night – in other words – at any teachable moment. It is important that parents, as their child’s first and most important teachers, read and discuss the Bible at home, encourage memorizing scripture, review and reinforce biblical teachings, and help child develop a desire to obey biblical teachings. Using the Bible is a large part of a child’s spiritual growth as they explore the many ways to worship.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School (VBS)is a great week of learning fun for kids that are pre-k through those that have completed 5th grade. Participants enjoy bible stories, games, crafts, music, missions, snacks and recreation each day. A special theme is chosen each year that is brought to life through colorful decorations and inviting rooms. It is an exciting time to be with friends and to learn about God.
VBS week is usually the second week in June, Monday through Friday mornings. A Family Night is held on Thursday during VBS week to allow family and friends to experience our Worship Rally and to hear the children sing the songs they have learned during the week. Afterward, families may tour the VBS rooms together.
The purpose of Upward Sports is to introduce children to Jesus Christ by creating opportunities to serve through sports. Upward Sports is a positive sports experience that offers both parents and kids exactly what they want in a sports league. Parents love the family-friendly schedule, welcoming environment and coaches who teach the sport without yelling. Kids love the fact that they get to play or cheer every game, make new friends and have fun learning new skills.
Each fall we host an Upward Soccer league. Registration for this league will be open as early as June. Games are every Saturday in September and October.
Check out Upward.org for more information.
Each summer, children will have the chance to get away for a week of fun, fellowship and Bible study!
Children that have completed 2nd grade through 5th grade are invited to attend KidzKamp at Camp Bethany! Check out kidzkampatbethany.com for more information.
